Title: | A Band of Elk Grazing on Their Native Ranges |
---|---|
Description: |
Wildlife Management Slide Show created by the USFS in 1938. Transcribed from original program. 8. Originally, the elk was an inhabitant of the plains and lower foothills, and its range corresponded closely to that of the Buffalo. Now it is seldom found outside the mountainous country where protective cover is near into which it can retreat upon the first signs of danger. During the summer months elk are found through the mountains mostly at higher altitudes to timber line. This band of elk is shown feeding in typical summer range. During this period grasses and weeds are principal food. |
