Title: | ANTELOPE FED AND PROTECTED BY THE U.S. GOVERNMENT |
---|---|
Description: |
Wildlife Management Slide Show created by the USFS in 1938. Transcribed from original program. 2. The fleetest animal afoot is the antelope which is said to attain a maximum speed of sixty miles per hour. It is strictly a desert and plains animal, and feeds largely upon grasses, some weeds, sagebrush, and greasewood. In the drier regions, antelope go for long periods of time without water. Moisture is derived entirely from cacti and other succulent desert vegetation. Antelope are very scarce in Colorado; only a few small scattered bunches are found in the plains sections. In Wyoming, however, there are over 34,000. National Forest ranges for the most part are not suitable to antelope. |
