This smaller relative of the gray wolf is very crafty, intelligent, and shy. In spite of unrelenting persecution, its range has actually expanded and it is necessary for the Federal Government to keep a corps of hunters in the field to keep the numbers of coyotes in check. Coyotes also prey extensively on poultry, and frequently carrion and innumerable wild fruits are also eaten. |
