Title: Work of Beaver
Description: Wildlife Management Slide Show created by the USFS in 1938. Transcribed from original program.

23. The beaver is the most important fur bearing animal in the Rocky Mountains. It was so highly prized, and so much in demand that the species was nearly exterminated. As a result of protective measures, its numbers are gradually increasing. These animals are the hydraulic engineers of nature, and as a result of their canal and dam construction, materially aid in water conservation, and benefit stream condition for fish life. Beaver ponds make excellent spawning beds and retaining ponds for small fry.
