---|---|
Description: |
Wildlife Management Slide Show created by the USFS in 1938. Transcribed from original program. 42..Another group of birds of the grouse family; ptarmigan in winter plumage. In spring, they molt to a mottled brownish color. Insects, herbs, weed seeds, and wild fruits make up the summer diet, while willow and birch buds, those of the alder, and others comprise the winter diet. In summer it is found in timberline country, but in winter it moves to the lower elevations. Ptarmigan, too, fluctuate in numbers periodically similarly to the dusky grouse. |
