Wildlife Management Slide Show created by the USFS in 1938. Transcribed from original program. 40..The eastern wild turkeys shown here may be distinguished from the domestic breed by the bluish cast on their heads and the absence of white markings on wings and tails; all markings are a bronze color. Domestic turkeysÂ’ heads are reddish and body markings are white. Several introductions of this species have been made on several Rocky Mountain Forests. Another species, the Merriam turkey, occurs naturally on the San Isabel, Rio Grande, and San Juan Forests of Colorado. It is distinguished from the eastern turkey by whitish markings on the rump and tail feathers.
