Image Description from original transcript: Every Forest Region Offers Scenes of Interest and Beauty..Intermountain Region Region 4..Gilpin Lake, Routt National Forest, Colorado..The Intermountain Forest Region is the roof of the continent, lying as it does on the central section of the Continental Divide and protecting headwaters of the Columbia, Missouri, and Colorado Rivers. There are 26 National Forests in the Intermountain Region 1 in AX, 11 in ID, 3 in NV, 9 in UT, and 2 in WY, with a combined area of nearly 30,000,000 acres. The Regional Forester has headquarters at Ogden, Utah...This Region contains, among other scenic wonders, the stupendous serrated ramparts of the Sawtooth Range in Idaho, which looks down upon a glamorous region of forested hills and sparkling lakes. Three Primitive Areas are in Region 4 the Idaho, High Uintas, and Bridger, in Idaho, Utah and Wyoming, respectively. In quantity and value of timber sold on its National Forest, Idaho ranks high. This State leads all other National Forests States in number of livestock grazed on forest ranges. Watershed protection for irrigation, however, is the most important forest use in Utah. Among places of extraordinary interest in the intermountain Region are Lehman Caves National Monument on the Nevada National Forest; Timpanogos Cave National Monument on the Wasatch National Forest, Utah; and Cedar Breaks on the Dixie National Forest, Utah, the last named being a series of vast natural amphitheaters eroded by wind, water, and frost to a depth of 2,000 feet Old Oregon Trail; site of Fort Bonneville, once a favorite rendezvous for hunters and trappers; the DeSmet Monument which marks the spot were mass was first said in Wyoming; and many reminders of the Mormon settlement..There is good hunting and fishing in this Region. The Teton Forest, WY surrounds Jackson Hole as is a feeding ground for famous hers of elk. Highways and good roads make the Forest accessible to tourists and popular with all recreationists.
