Image Description from original transcript: Representing Uncle Sam..Supervisors, Rangers, and other Forest officers carry on the work of managing and protecting the National Forest resources and assist the public in making use of these resources. Rangers supervise timber sales on the National Forests, also grazing, and other uses of the Forests. They help to build roads, trails, bridges, telephone lines, and other improvements including campground conveniences. A large part of their time is necessarily devoted to the protection of the forest from fire and to fighting fires when they occur. Physical endurance is necessary to the success of the Ranger, because of the heavy labor and exposure involved in this work...55. How and where to build a camp fire. When one is camping on a site that has no concrete or stone fire-place, the making of the camp fire is a serious business. All inflammable material should be scraped away from the spot at least five feet in diameter, a hole should be dug in the center of the scrapped area and the fire should be built in this hole. The fire should be kept small. Above all, no camper should ever break camp until he has put his fire out DEAD OUT! with water. |
