Forest volunteers, the regional mule pack string and Black Hills National Forest employees worked at the historic Harney Peak Lookout Tower. Volunteer maintenance efforts at the Harney Lookout Tower included installing 19 replica windows and three replica doors. Additionally, the Forest Service repaired mortared stone stairs attached to the lookout tower. Materials were transported to the tower by the Region 2 mule pack string from the Willow Creek Campground and maintenance efforts were traditional in technique, meaning no motorized equipment or wheeled tools were used.
