Horned feeder cattle require more space at the feed trough. Dehorned slaughter cattle almost invariably produce carcasses with fewer and less serious bruises than similar horned cattle handled under the same conditions. Carcass values are materially lowered by bruises, and hides are frequently damaged by horns.
