Mountain Pine Beetle - Cut and Chunk Method

Follow theTatnka Hotshot crew as they cut and chunk mountain pine beetle infested ponderosa pine trees in the Black Hills National Forest. This is one of many methods used to control the beetles and provide firewood for loal communities. The firewood size pieces have to be spit and dried thoroughly before moving as the tenacious little beetles can survive in moist shady places even after the trees are cut. Public domain.
