Frank Carroll - 06/11/2011

Frank Carroll and Martin Luschei

Author Martin Luschei showed friend Frank Carroll where President Eisenhower fished French Creek at Eisenhower's Pond. Luchei wrote "The Black Hills and the Indians: A Haven of Our Hopes." Susanna Marking produced a very interesting documentary of the history of recreation residences in the National Forests and Parks, and South Dakota's Custer State Park, using Martin's cabin and his history as a basis for the premise that government land conserving agencies in the 1920s and 30s allowed people to build cabins on leased public lands to build political constituencies to support public land.
