Forest Service inspects trees to be used in planting operation on the Black Hills National Forest. April 2004,Hell Canyon Ranger District.Work crews from Medford, Oregon helped return 500 acres of the Black Hills National Forest into stands of ponderosa pines. The 2000 Jasper Fire, located 16 miles west of Custer, South Dakota burned over 83,500 acres. The planting crew had 151,000 seedlings to plant, including two-year-old and six-month-old seedlings. The goal for each member of the crew was to plant 1,000 trees a day.
