Welcome to the ForestPhoto Beta Media Library

Welcome to the ForestPhoto site, a support resource for Forest management monitoring and a companion site to our Black Hills National Forest web site. In our continuing efforts to comply with Presidential Executive Orders and Congressional intent (including the Freedom of Information Act) that government be transparent and open,  ForestPhoto.com allows you to search, browse, and download documents, photos, videos, and audio files that would otherwise not be available on agency web sites due to file size or search ability, for example. You may find files or assets by conducting a quick search using keywords, or by performing an advanced search, or by simply browsing the categories.

To access all of Forest Photo’s features, including creating personalized albums and downloading full size media, please register with us.  Every file or asset on this site is free for federal government use, giving appropriate credit to the Forest and the Photographer.  Some of the files or assets are copyrighted for purposes of commercial use.

You are not currently logged in. To view the full catalog of assets, obtain dowload permissions, and request information please login or register.

There are thousands of Public Domain assets that can be downloaded by the general public; however commercial use must be negotiated with individual photographers if a copyright is indicated. All assets may be downloaded as full size for any federal government use. Contact information is available via the “view details” link at the bottom of each file or asset.   From there, click on the “click to email” link. In each case, the participating Forest and photographer or author must be given credit for their work. View Terms and Conditions below for full information.

Any public land and resource management agency may participate in using this site for file or asset management and archival storage.  Please contact us for details.

Any photographer of Forest and Rangeland related photos, historical documents, videos, or other digital data including owners of private collections (retirees, employees, others)  may also be eligible to use this site for free public distribution of images and assets, if such use would meet management and archival needs as determined by the Forest Service.  Commercial uses remain privately held.  Contact us for more information.

If you would like to use the site to post photos, video, audio, or documents like video transcripts, please use the contact us link to start the process.
